There seems to be an increasing number of people losing their jobs lately due to our poor economy. With the loss of job come the loss of health insurance. People can not afford COBRA or any private insurance because there is no money. I think the government needs to consider the fact that something needs to be done to help its own citizens. It is quite embarassing to know that so many Americans are going bankrupt and do not have health insurance. Our nation should not be falling behind. We should be moving upstream and trying to fix the current now. One of our main problems is the cost of health care. I would like to see what new ideas Obama and health care reform supporters have for the reform. If we start from scratch and try to rewrite another bill then that would set us back even more.

I agree "America in this world is where you get hurt you have to file for bankruptcy". We can not afford health care. I pray everyday that my family stays healthy so we do not have to worry about the hospital bill because I don't know how we would pay for it.

Obama said by 2020 every American should be able to attend school and get an education. With no employment available now and I'm not sure about later, that education can also lead to bankruptcy and loan delinquency.

  1. I pray for the same everyday even though I have health insurance coverage. I recently took note of an article in the LA times, the link is below:

The current system is one that's set up to have financial incentives to drop people once they develop illnesses that are simply too expensive. As I watched the videos I see that some of the solutions and changes proposed to health care reform simply don't take into account what the average American has to deal with. It truly did strike me when President Obama mentioned that, "Members of congress are in the highest income brackets." This statement does bring up concerns about the ability of policymakers to empathize and understand what most Americans experience. However, it was nice to also hear the statements of a senator who understood that if something were to happen to his current insurance coverage, he would not be able to get new coverage due to his pre-existing conditions. I hope more personal accounts such as this one are taken into account as debate about health care reform continues to grow.

  2. I agree that there is a major disconnect between the policymakers and the citizens of the our country because of the income brackets and seemingly most of them seem to be in good health and if not they have the resources to stay in good healthy. There are people in this country who do not go seek health care because they cannot afford the bill or are afraid to even see what the costs might be. The most alarming stat was that 1000 people die every week due to lack of health insurance.
There just seems to a be lot of problems being proposed and stories however not one member in any of the highlights really proposed a solution which makes the summit seem of information we already know... that health care reform is needed and costs are the biggest problem.
